Gaillardia pulchellaThe vegetation in Baisha Township is classified as tropical savanna. The seasonal winds' scouring of topsoil and high salinity means that only brushwood and grasses can survive.

Gaillardia grows in profusion throughout Penghu so the island is also nicknamed the "Jyudao", meaning "Gaillardia Island". The toughness of the plant life on the island is a product of the fierce seasonal winds that blow in fall and winter. The waters around Baisha are rich in natural resources and home to all kinds of marine life. Large plate-like clusters of coral grow around Jibei Island while the clusters of soft coral and an expansive intertidal zone can be found in the waters southeast of Gupou Island.

Ocean landscapeThe uninhabited islands provide protected bird species with safe harbor when the seasons change and also a place for rare species to nurture their young. The sights and sounds as all kinds of protected species feeding their young and flying through the air often seen on the Discovery and National Geographic channels can all be found at the Baisha islands.
